“Down here,” came the voice again.

Aquarius Boy looked at the ground, and there sat a shiny brown Scorpion. “Oh, I didn’t see you there before.” He squatted down and asked, “Why didn’t you sting me?”

The Scorpion waved one of its pincers, as if to dismiss the question. “It was better for me to let you keep walking, even if you did rough me up a bit, because if I’d stung you, you might have tried to crush me, and then we’d both be in far more pain than we are now.”

Aquarius Boy laughed. “You are a wise bug! Let us be friends.”

The Scorpion agreed. “Farewell, new friend, and keep an eye on the ground,” it said, and then scuttled under a rock at the edge of the path.
