Shaardul Cleans Up – p.3

Each time Shaardul went to the hillside to sunbathe and sleep, the baby monkeys were waiting for him. He had no idea why they found him so fascinating, but they were too small and weak to cause him any harm, so he slept through their antics.

Once, he wondered whether they were good to eat, but decided not to pursue them since they were so quick. He mainly fed on slower moving creatures that he could easily sneak up on in the undergrowth of the jungle…which meant he didn’t eat much, or often. His energy reserves were too precious to waste on a couple of small monkeys who might not even taste good.

As the days went on, Shaardul became the subject of many jokes and a lot of speculation amongst the other animals. He never heard a word of it, of course, since he was able to sleep through the loudest noises and the rudest bumps. The mother of the baby monkeys had been afraid for their safety that first time they had played around the tiger, but now she laughed and told all her friends how docile and harmless he was.

It was quite an embarrassment to the other tigers.
