Cedar Stormchaser – p.3

Cedar walked on and on, through seemingly endless grasses, under a grey sky with a sun that didn’t move. He was beginning to get hungry again and hoped the provisions his grandmother had given him would last until his journey’s end…though he wondered if it would end at all.

He noticed after a time that the grass was not as tall as it had been when he started. The fields around his home were surrounded by soft green reeds that grew almost to his waist, but now they only reached just above his knees. Elated that here was proof that he was making some kind of progress, Cedar started running.

The landscape passed him swiftly, and bit by bit the grass receded until it was no higher than his ankles. Cedar could see far ahead, and while time and the movement of the sun still seemed to be stopped, a few miles ahead a huge storm raged and rained and churned, heading slowly towards him.
